“Untitled”A Portrait of ross

by Félix González-Torres

1991

His most famous work shows a pile of colourful candies which the viewer can take a piece of. To an outsider it looks like a fun and playful art piece. But the message is much deeper. The weight of the candies is the same as the weight of his partner Ross Laycock. It’s a representation of his who died of AIDS. The reducing weight/amount of candies parallel’s the weight and suffering of Ross prior to his death. It’s a beautiful way to raise awareness to AIDS.
